Empowering renewables with better science
Veer is dedicated to advanced renewable energy modeling and analysis that optimizes asset performance.
We harness advanced weather modelling, data science, and machine learning to provide our clients with exceptional analysis and solutions with our suite of digital products and core services.
Putting the power in your hands for efficient, timely intelligence
Veer does data science differently. Our subscription based digital products are streamlined, simple-to-use interfaces that can run multiple simulations quickly and economically. We also conduct detailed studies and analyses bespoke to your project’s needs.
A quick summary of how we help level-up your portfolio with our core services:

You need fast, actionable intelligence. We’re here to help.
When consulting services take time and get expensive, there is veerEarth. Between the time you solicit the work to receive the final report, months may have gone by. In this rapidly moving industry with tight timelines and tight margins, that can be a problem.
That’s why we’re doing things a little differently. Many consulting services can be stripped down and offered directly to stakeholders as a data product. This is the vision of veerEarth, our new interactive web interface, where clients will increasingly be able to access products ranging from resource maps and timeseries, portfolio optimization algorithms, and more.
Fast, cost-effective, and efficient. That’s the philosophy behind veerEarth. Get started at earth.veer.eco

The wind landscape is changing. So should your wake estimates.
Our flagship product, WakeMap, represents a paradigm shift in modeling wind farm wakes. Utilizing the latest advancements in numerical weather modeling and validated at a growing list of wind farm locations, WakeMap accurately quantifies the impacts of farm-to-farm (or cluster) wakes, far beyond the boundaries of typical engineering wake models.

Your portfolio may be performing better than you think.
The key to any solid asset portfolio is diversity, especially in renewables. From varying global solar and wind resources to vastly different grid operating conditions, to unique technologies and their performances, no two renewable assets are the same. The key, however, is quantifying that diversity in the financial benefit it serves.
That’s where our Asset Diversity Factor comes in. Leveraging advanced statistical and meteorological tools, we unravel the web of correlations that link your renewable assets, and how each of them --- existing or proposed --- are working for or against your bottom line: maximizing portfolio production and revenue and minimizing uncertainty.

No black box here. We put performance assessment code in your hands.
One reason the industry is slow to adopt new methods is a lack of transparency. Our philosophy at Veer is that if better science and methods are made more available, that pushes the industry forward and everyone benefits. That’s why we developed EmpowerOps, an arrangement where we work with owner/operators to develop custom operational performance analysis code for their assets and portfolios, and then deliver that code for integration into the client’s internal processes

Knowing where (and where not) to put your next renewable project has never been more important.
By now, we all know where the windiest and sunniest spots are in the world. That’s no secret. But there’s a growing nuance here. How are those resources changing by season, by time of day, and how does that integrate with power markets and grid integration? Is the resource increasing or decreasing over time, such as from growing wake losses in increasingly densely populated wind energy clusters?
We specialize in exhaustive characterization and analysis of renewable resources, and are here to help you scope out your next project site. Reach out to learn more.

You’ve found your site. Now, how much energy is it really going to produce?
Let’s face it, the industry has a history of overestimating energy production from wind and solar projects. Much of that is rooted in industry standard methods that are slow to evolve to a rapidly changing renewable energy landscape. From the wind profile power law to linear regression, we remain largely tethered to dated atmospheric and data science that are increasingly outdated.
We do things differently here. Leveraging advanced weather models and data science, with a solid foundation in timeseries-based analyses, we accurately characterize the resource and energy potential of your next project and set you up for operational success without the surprises.

You can’t get to where you're going if you do not know where you’ve been
Once your project is operational, you want to know how it’s doing. Is it producing as expected and, if not, where are the pain points? Is the resource lower than estimated, or are the turbines or arrays underperforming? And if so, what is the root cause?
These analyses are our bread and butter. Leveraging 15 years of working with operational data, from monthly operating reports to 1-second frequency SCADA data, we know how to surgically dissect and diagnose asset performance and get you the actionable intelligence needed to make improvements.
Accurate renewable energy modeling requires a deep understanding of how complex atmospheric dynamics drive power production. Current industry-standard methods, however, often overlook and oversimplify these variables with dated methods.
For over 15 years, Veer Renewables has been at the forefront of progressive research, working extensively with asset owners, research labs, and consultants to leverage modern scientific methods, improve accuracy, and lower uncertainty.
Who we work with
What our clients say
“[...] Mike’s achievements in reducing computational costs and runtimes of large mesoscale model simulations through the development of WakeMap are impressive. The user-friendly interface of WakeMap makes advanced atmospheric physics-based wake models easily accessible, significantly expanding the toolset available to the wind industry as part of a multi-fidelity approach to wake modelling.”
- Marie-Anne Cowan, Senior Chief Consultant - Offshore Wind Advisory, Ramboll Group
“[...] Our decision to integrate Veer products into our Meteorology and Energy Assessment procedures has been transformative to the accuracy and depth of our deliverables. [...] Our use of WakeMap has been fairly extensive already, including informing high level financial models and decisions. [...] The projects themselves are gigawatt-scale. [...] WakeMap can resolve the spatial scale and also the temporal patterns needed to inform the sensitivities of long-term climate and short-term weather patterns in financial models.”
- Zack Irons, Director of Meteorology, Pattern Energy
“Mike worked collaboratively with our engineering team, leading the analysis of operational turbine performance in a variety of different environmental and grid-related conditions. This involved a detailed SCADA analysis with applied meteorological expertise to evaluate differences from pre-construction assumptions. Mike’s summarization plots and visual tools were instrumental for us to deepen our understanding and communication about the performance of the wind project. As a result, we are able to more effectively manage our fleet of wind turbines and also calibrate our operational performance model for a variety of future environmental and operational situations.”
