WakeMap™: The Next Generation in Wind Resource Modeling

Released in February 2022, WakeMap™ is a first-of-its-kind commercial product that accurately models the phenomenon of inter-farm or "long" wakes. The evidence over the last few years has been clear: under specific but regularly occurring atmospheric conditions, wind farm wakes can travel much farther than we ever thought possible, in some cases more than 50 kilometers (km). We have seen firsthand how these “long wakes” can significantly impact annual energy production of neighboring wind farms not just offshore, but onshore as well. As this problem intensifies with a rapidly expanding global wind farm fleet, we have historically lacked a tool to identify and quantify these long wake impacts early in the development phase of a new wind farm project
